Ann Hampton Callaway

Best known for the Broadway musical, “SWING!” and for writing and singing the theme for “THE NANNY” TV series, Ann Hampton Callaway pleases music lovers with her multiple talents as singer, pianist, composer, lyricist, arranger, actress, and educator. She has written songs with Carole King and Barbara Carroll. Her fan base includes Barbra Streisand, Clive Davis, Carly Simon and Wynton Marsalis. “For sheer vocal beauty, no contemporary singer matches Ms. Callaway,” writes the NY Times, who is known for pitch-perfect control and a three-octave range. From singing six hours nightly at a NY piano bar, Ann took the advice of legendary pianist and mentor George Shearing to refine her ability to scat, swing and inhabit a song. A favorite on the jazz and pops concert circuit, appearing with Wynton Marsalis and Keith Lockhart, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, for President Clinton and for President Gorbachev’s Moscow Youth Peace Summit. Be it on Broadway, the Edinburgh Festival, or in Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall, Ann stops the show. She has recorded many CDs and won three platinum records. Ann composed “At the Same Time” for Ms. Streisand as well as lyrics to “I’ve Dreamed of You” for the Streisand-Brolin wedding. She has performed on numerous TV shows, made her film debut singing in Robert DeNiro’s “The Good Shepherd,” and wrote songs for the movie musical “State of Affairs.” She has received many awards, among them 14 from The Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets, two Backstage Bistro Awards, the 2005 Nightlife Award, and the Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award. Ann has written and performed songs for philanthropic causes including Hurricane Katrina victims, tsunami survivors, and 9/11. Piano remains part of her performances; Ann travels with her musical director Ted Rosenthal.
