Joe graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California and will attend DePaul University this fall. He was a member of his high school jazz big band for four years and has won awards for Outstanding Musicianship at both the San Jose and the Santa Cruz Jazz Festivals. Besides playing the trumpet (as well as the piano and guitar), Joe enjoys singing and was a member of the National Honor Choir and his high school jazz choir. Joe indicates that he especially favors the blues, latin and funk styles of jazz and he lists Arturo Sandoval, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie as three of his favorite trumpet players. His goals for the Workshop include becoming more creative in his improvisational style when soloing.
