A native of Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada, Lauren has just finished her junior year at the Alberni District Secondary Schools. She began to play the violin eleven years ago, moved to the piano, then to the bass and took up the oboe, all of which she continues to play. She enjoys singing and dancing (and performs often at community events), finds time to participate in karate classes while working part-time at a local grocery store. In addition to playing in her high school band, she plays in two multi-school combos and is a member of the Provincial Honour Jazz Band. Lauren has won a number of awards at Canadian jazz festivals and band competitions and is looking forward to expanding her music horizons in Vail, noting that it "would be a dream come true to be able to study with John Clayton."
