The Search for Vail Jazz Artistic Director Begins
In this period of imagination, planning, and growth, identifying the long-term Artistic Director to help lead Vail Jazz is a top priority. To that end, the Board of Directors has formed an Artistic Director Search Task Force to guide the process.
“We are not trying to replace Howard Stone,” Task Force Chair, Sarah Valente, points out. “We couldn’t possibly do that.” Rather, the search team is looking for candidates who can build upon Howard’s legacy while expanding the vision for Vail Jazz performances and its education programs going forward.
In addition to Executive Director Amanda Blevins and Interim Artistic Director John Clayton, Task Force members include Board members Steve Pope, Alan Tanenbaum, and Sarah Valente. They are joined by two close friends of Vail Jazz, Lee Berk and Wing Mayer. Each brings a unique perspective, from deep connections in the jazz world, to extensive arts management experience.
Board President Garret Davies explains that “The new Artistic Director will serve as the artistic head of the organization, with the overall responsibility for the selection and hiring of performing artists.”
As we embark on the search for our next Artistic Director, we encourage our collective community of patrons, volunteers, educators, and student participants to join us in imagining the future of Vail Jazz.
